Ha Giang Tours 2026: Choosing Your Loop, Your Days and What It Costs

·
The Ma Pi Leng pass road winding along a cliff face in Ha Giang

Updated: 09/2026 — prices come from Go365's live booking system, per adult.

Everyone who rides Hà Giang comes back saying the same thing: no photograph does it justice. The Đồng Văn karst plateau stands almost vertical, the Mã Pí Lèng pass is cut into a cliff face, and the Nho Quế river runs turquoise at the bottom of the Tu Sản canyon, nearly 800 m below. That same terrain is why picking the wrong kind of trip ruins the week. This page sorts every Hà Giang tour Go365 sells by length and transport, with real prices and honest advice on which loop matches your fitness.

How many days do you need?

LengthHow far you getSuits
2 days, 1 nightQuản Bạ, Yên Minh, Đồng Văn — Mã Pí Lèng rushed or skippedTravellers already in the north, weekend trips
3 days, 2 nightsThe full karst loop: Đồng Văn, Lũng Cú, Mã Pí Lèng, Nho Quế riverThe best balance
4 days, 3 nightsAdds Du Già or the western loop, with time to breatheMotorbike riders wanting a slower pace
5 days, 4 nightsBoth the eastern and western sides of the provinceExperienced riders, second visits

Flying in from Hồ Chí Minh City or central Vietnam? Add a night in Hà Nội first — the road from Hà Nội to Hà Giang alone takes six to seven hours.

Car tours — right for most travellers

Someone else drives, you watch. This is the sensible choice with parents, with children, or if you have never ridden mountain switchbacks.

If you take only one: the three-day version with the Nho Quế cruise earns its price. Seeing the Tu Sản canyon from the pass and from the water are two completely different experiences.

Motorbike tours — only if you know what you are doing

Hà Giang is at its best on two wheels, no argument. But this loop has hairpin bends, unguarded drops and fog that arrives without warning. Choose it only if you have ridden long mountain roads before, or hire an "easy rider" to drive while you ride pillion.

Three non-negotiables on a bike: a full-face helmet, a two-piece rain suit rather than a poncho, and no riding after dark — these passes have no lighting and fog drops fast.

Camping and the western loop — for a second visit

Already ridden the karst loop and want to come back? These four are a different province entirely:

Suôi Thầu is often called Vietnam's own Swiss meadow — rolling grass, almost no shops, better for camping than for a quick photo stop.

Which month?

January – MarchPeach, plum and mustard blossomCold, with frost on the peaks
April – MayWater-pouring season on the western terracesAfternoon showers begin
June – AugustDeep green, waterfalls at full flowPeak rain — landslide risk, think twice about riding
September – OctoberRipe rice in the west (Hoàng Su Phì, Bản Phùng)The best month for terrace photography
October – DecemberBuckwheat flower season, the province's signatureBusiest time of year; book three to four weeks ahead

Pairing Hà Giang with Sa Pa

Both sit in the northern mountains but look nothing alike: Hà Giang is vertical rock, Sa Pa is soft terraces. A sensible seven- or eight-day plan runs Hà Nội → Hà Giang (3–4 days) → Lào Cai → Sa Pa (2–3 days) → Hà Nội. Our Sa Pa guide 2026 covers that half, including Fansipan cable car prices and a three-day itinerary.

What to prepare

  • Documents. Lũng Cú and several communes sit inside the border zone. Vietnamese travellers need national ID; foreign visitors need a separate border permit, which our operations team arranges when you book.
  • Clothing. The gap between Hà Giang town and the top of Mã Pí Lèng can reach 8–10°C. Bring a jacket even in summer.
  • Motion sickness. This loop is one bend after another. If you are prone to it, sit in front and take medication 30 minutes before departure.
  • Booking window. For buckwheat season (October to December) and public holidays, book three to four weeks ahead — guesthouses in Đồng Văn sell out early.

For a private departure, a family or corporate group, or to add Sa Pa and Hà Nội, see our tailor-made itinerary service or call +84 789 9000 77.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many days do I need in Ha Giang?
Three days and two nights is the best balance — enough for the full karst loop including Dong Van, Lung Cu, the Ma Pi Leng pass and the Nho Que river. Two days means dropping stops; four to five days suit motorbike riders or those adding the western loop.
What is the cheapest Ha Giang tour?
Camping on Tay Con Linh peak, 2 days 1 night, from 2,240,000₫. Among the karst-plateau car tours the cheapest is the 3-day, 2-night departure from Ha Noi at 2,775,000₫.
Car or motorbike?
A car suits most travellers, especially with parents or children. The bike is more beautiful but the loop has hairpin bends, unguarded drops and sudden fog — choose it only if you have ridden long mountain roads, or hire an easy rider to drive while you ride pillion.
When is buckwheat flower season?
Roughly October to December, which is also the busiest time of year. Book three to four weeks ahead because guesthouses in Dong Van fill quickly.
Do foreign visitors need a permit for Lung Cu?
Yes. Lung Cu and several communes lie inside the border zone, so foreign visitors need a separate border permit in addition to their visa. Go365's operations team arranges this when you book.
