ITINERARY 3 DAYS 2 NIGHTS
DAY 1: Hà Nội – Hà Giang – Yên Minh
06:00 – 06:30 The car and your Hà Giang guide pick you up at the meeting point in the Old Quarter / Opera House area and set off for Hà Giang. Rest and have breakfast at your own expense at the Kim Anh junction or on the expressway.
Note: the car can also pick you up at the Kim Anh junction (the start of the Hà Nội – Lào Cai expressway, 3km from Nội Bài airport, near the Nội Bài hotel area) at around 07:30. So if you land at Nội Bài late, you may book a hotel near the airport to save resting time and the taxi fare into the Old Quarter.
12:00 Lunch in Vị Xuyên, Hà Giang
Stop to visit the Vị Xuyên National Martyrs' Cemetery.
On reaching Hà Giang City, take commemorative photos at the Hà Giang Km0 marker.
Stop at the Quản Bạ Heaven's Gate viewpoint to photograph the Fairy Twin Mountains – also known as the Quản Bạ Twin Mountains – and the panorama of Tam Sơn town from above.
Stop and check in at the Lonely Tree
18:30 Stop for the night in Yên Minh: check in at the hotel, have dinner at a restaurant, then explore Yên Minh town by night and sample the local specialities at your leisure.
DAY 2: Lũng Cú – Mã Pì Lèng – Nho Quế River cruise
06:00 Breakfast, then set off to admire the majestic scenery of the Đồng Văn Karst Plateau Global Geopark. Along the way you will stop at:
Phố Cáo, with its distinctive H'Mông houses ringed by stone walls.
Sủng Là: visit an old H'Mông house with rammed-earth walls – the setting used for the 2006 feature film “The Story of Pao” by director Ngô Quang Hải, adapted from Đỗ Bích Thủy's short story “The Jew's Harp Behind the Stone Fence”, which won 4 Golden Kite awards. You can rest here and photograph the buckwheat flowers near the Nine-Bend slope.
The Lũng Cú Flag Tower – the northernmost point of the country and the highest latitude on the map of Vietnam.
Conquer the Mã Pì Lèng Pass on the way to Mèo Vạc, the finest stretch of the road known as the “Happiness Road”.
Take photos of the majestic 800m-deep Mã Pì Lèng canyon – the most deeply incised terrain in Vietnam.
Cruise on the Nho Quế River: board a boat and head upstream to the Tu Sản canyon, the deepest canyon in Southeast Asia, on the Nho Quế River. The Nho Quế enters Vietnam at Séo Lủng hamlet, Lũng Cú commune, Đồng Văn district, passes through the Tu Sản canyon and runs along the foot of the Mã Pì Lèng Pass (motorbike-taxi fees down to the pier and the boat fare are at your own expense).
17:00 Return to Đồng Văn town and check in at the hotel/homestay.
18:30 Dinner at a restaurant. In the evening you are free to explore the Đồng Văn Old Quarter, a place that has stood for almost a century, and linger over a coffee at an old-quarter café (at your own expense).
DAY 3: Đồng Văn – the Vương Mansion – Hà Giang – Hà Nội (breakfast, lunch)
Morning: get up to watch people from many ethnic groups streaming in from every direction to the Đồng Văn market day, held every Sunday morning.
07:00 Breakfast and board the coach back to Hà Nội. On the way you visit the H'Mông King's Palace – the residence of Vương Chính Đức in a valley of Sà Phìn commune, home to the richest and most powerful clan in the Đồng Văn region in the early 20th century.
12:00 The Hà Giang tour group has lunch at a pre-booked restaurant. After lunch you board the coach again for Hà Nội.
20:00 Arrive in Hà Nội, end of the programme. We look forward to seeing you again.
