ITINERARY 4 DAYS 3 NIGHTS

DAY 1: Hà Nội – Hà Giang – Nặm Đăm, Quản Bạ

06:00 – 06:30 The car and your Hà Giang guide pick you up at the meeting point in the Old Quarter / Opera House area and set off for Hà Giang. Rest and have breakfast at your own expense at the Kim Anh junction or on the expressway.

Note: the car can also pick you up at the Kim Anh junction (the start of the Hà Nội – Lào Cai expressway, 3km from Nội Bài airport, near the Nội Bài hotel area) at around 07:30. So if you land at Nội Bài late, you may book a hotel near the airport to save resting time and the taxi fare into the Old Quarter.

12:00 Lunch in Vị Xuyên, Hà Giang

On reaching Hà Giang City, take commemorative photos at the Hà Giang Km0 marker.

Visit and check in at the Bắc Sum slope viewpoint – nicknamed the “Pha Đin” of Hà Giang, Bắc Sum is a must for every road tripper. Winding, rugged and full of tight hairpin bends, the slope coils like a snake. Perhaps only in Hà Giang can a single slope, a single stretch of mountain road, hold so much unique beauty.

Stop at the Quản Bạ Heaven's Gate viewpoint to photograph the Fairy Twin Mountains – also known as the Quản Bạ Twin Mountains – and the panorama of Tam Sơn town from above.

The last stop of day one is Nặm Đăm, Quản Bạ

Check in at the homestay, rest and have dinner in Nặm Đăm.

DAY 2: Sủng Là valley – Lũng Cú flag tower – Đồng Văn old quarter

06:30 check out and ride to Tráng Kìm for breakfast – try the locally famous Tráng Kìm phở.

Next we stop and check in at the Lonely Tree – a solitary burretiodendron tree that has long become a famous photo stop for travellers exploring the Happiness Road.

Afterwards you ride over Thẩm Mã slope – the link between Yên Minh town and the Đồng Văn stone plateau, winding between two towering rock mountains.

The next stop is Sủng Là valley and Lũng Cẩm cultural village – the setting for the famous films “The Story of Pao” and “Quietly Below the Abyss”. In winter and spring, fields of buckwheat and cherry blossom burst into bloom, perfect for romantic footage rich in highland culture.

12:00 lunch in Sủng Là.

Next the group visits the Vương family mansion (the H'Mông King's Palace), one of Hà Giang's most important historical sites. Beyond its cultural value, its nostalgic air moves many visitors. With unique architecture preserved intact through the years, travellers feel transported into an older world, older memories and the upheavals this land has lived through across its cultural history.

Your next stop is Lũng Cú – the northernmost point of the country, described as the place where “you bow your face to the ground and lift it to the sky”. Visit and take photos at the Lũng Cú flag tower; from there you can look out over beautiful terraced fields dotted with the rammed-earth houses of the Lô Lô people in Séo Lủng hamlet below.

At the end of the day the group rides to Đồng Văn town, checks in at the hotel and has a pre-booked dinner at a restaurant. Afterwards you are free to wander the Đồng Văn old quarter – an architectural ensemble formed in the 20th century with a strong Chinese imprint, two-storey houses roofed with yin-yang tiles and red lanterns hanging high. Visit the night market, enjoy a coffee in the old quarter and sample local specialities… then head back to the hotel to rest.

DAY 3: Mã Pì Lèng – Nho Quế River – Mèo Vạc

06:00 – 06:30 breakfast, then visit the Đồng Văn market day (held only on Sundays) – a gathering of the culture and cuisine of the ethnic minorities of the Hà Giang stone plateau. The group then returns to the hotel to check out.

The group heads to the Youth Volunteers Memorial – honouring the people who built the Happiness Road. This sweetly named road was opened to boost trade for residents of Đồng Văn and Mèo Vạc districts and help reduce poverty.

Check in at the Death Rock outcrop.

Conquer the Mã Pì Lèng Pass, one of Vietnam's four most famous great passes, at 2,000m above sea level with its winding hairpin bends…

Check in at the Panorama

12:00 the group stops for lunch at a restaurant.

Cruise on the Nho Quế River, explore the picture-perfect Tu Sản canyon and take in a panorama that looks like an ink-wash painting found nowhere else in Vietnam.

Next the group sets off for Pả Vi cultural village – a H'Mông community tourism village. Pả Vi Hạ hamlet is likened to a bright flower at the foot of the majestic Mã Pì Lèng Pass, nestled beside the winding, poetic emerald Nho Quế River in this frontier land. It is a must-see for anyone setting foot in Hà Giang.

18:00 ride to Mèo Vạc, check in at the hotel, rest, have dinner and explore Mèo Vạc town by night at your leisure.

DAY 4: M-bend – Yên Minh pine forest – Hà Nội

06:30 wake up, check out and have breakfast.

The group then rides the road from Mèo Vạc to Sủng Trái – Mậu Duệ.

Stop for photos at the M-bend – the M-shaped pass on the road from Mèo Vạc to Yên Minh. Like a brushstroke drawn on stone, this striking M-shaped slope leaves every traveller in awe at what nature and the working hands of the stone-plateau people have created together.

Visit and check in at the Yên Minh pine forest – a peaceful, poetic setting where rows of straight green pines soar into the sky as if piercing the clouds. Travellers often call it a miniature Đà Lạt.

12:00 lunch at a restaurant.

After the meal the group heads back to Hà Nội

20:00 the group arrives in Hà Nội, ending the 4-day 3-night Hà Giang Stone Plateau journey.
