How to travel from Sài Gòn to Đà Lạt?
Ho Chi Minh City is about 300–310 km from Đà Lạt via National Highway 20, passing through Bảo Lộc and then climbing Bảo Lộc Pass and Prenn Pass. The journey takes 7–8 hours. This is the most frequent route to the Central Highlands: there are buses running almost every hour of the day.
Important note: Đà Lạt has no long-distance train station — Đà Lạt Station only operates a 7 km tourist route down to Trại Mát. So there are only three options left:
| Travel method | Duration | Suitable for | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sleeper bus / cabin / sleeper cabin | 7–8 hours | Most solo travelers and couples | Multiple departures day and night; overnight trips arrive early in the morning |
| Flight (Tân Sơn Nhất → Liên Khương) | 50-minute flight | Travelers in a hurry or wary of mountain passes | Liên Khương Airport is 30 km from central Đà Lạt, requiring an additional ~40 minutes by car |
| Private car 4–16 seats | 6,5–7 hours | Families, groups, those prone to motion sickness on passes | Flexibility to stop at Bảo Lộc, Dambri Waterfall, or tea hills along the way |

Overnight or daytime trip?
Overnight trips (22:00–01:00) arrive in Đà Lạt around 5–7 AM, just as the city is still misty — many travelers choose this to save on a night's accommodation. In return, you won't see the mountain pass scenery and will have to wait until noon to check in. Morning trips from 5:30–8:00 are suitable for those who want to admire the Bảo Lộc tea hills and arrive in the early afternoon.
Mountain passes and motion sickness
The two most tiring stretches are Bảo Lộc Pass (about 10 km) and Prenn Pass right before entering Đà Lạt. Those prone to motion sickness should take medication 30 minutes beforehand, choose a lower-deck bed near the middle of the bus, and avoid eating a heavy meal. Đà Lạt is noticeably colder than Sài Gòn, with nighttime temperatures often around 15–18 degrees, so keep your jacket in your carry-on bag rather than in the checked luggage compartment.
