On the same route, you can find three types of vehicles with prices differing by almost double: limousine, sleeper bus, and cabin bus. The difference is not in the word “VIP” on the body of the vehicle, but in three things: how many passengers the vehicle carries, whether you sit or lie down, and how long the route is.
How do the three types of vehicles differ?
| Limousine | Sleeper | Cabin / sleeping cabin | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Passengers | Mostly 9–11 people, some routes use 19-seater vehicles | 32–34 people | about 20–24 people |
| Posture | Large seats, reclining | Lying down, 2-tier beds | Lying down, cabin with curtain or door |
| Best for route | Under about 300 km, daytime | Long routes, overnight | Long routes, overnight |
| Privacy | Medium | Low | Highest |
| Boarding & alighting | Fast, few passengers | Slow, many passengers | Slow, many passengers |
Who is the limousine suitable for?
The most popular limousines are 9–11 seater vans with modified interiors featuring large, reclining seats and ample legroom. Due to the low number of passengers, pick-up and drop-off are quick, usually within the city center. This is the best choice for 3–4 hour daytime routes such as Nha Trang – Đà Lạt, Đà Nẵng – Huế, Sài Gòn – Vũng Tàu. For routes over 6 hours, sitting the whole time will be tiring, so it is better to lie down.
Who are sleeper and cabin buses suitable for?
Sleeper buses are a familiar choice for long overnight routes: get on the bus, sleep, and arrive in the morning, saving a night's hotel stay. Cabin buses are an upgrade: each passenger gets a cabin with a curtain or door, usually equipped with a reading light and a private charging port, suitable for those who find it hard to sleep in crowded places or women traveling alone. Cabin fares are higher than sleeper fares; see the table below for each route.
Choosing by distance
- Under 4 hours, daytime: limousine.
- 4–6 hours: limousine if traveling by day, sleeper if the route only has large buses.
- Over 6 hours, overnight: sleeper to save money; cabin if you want a peaceful sleep.
- Traveling in a group of 4–5 people: also compare with private cars — on many routes, private cars are even cheaper per person.
