Laos is the only landlocked country in Southeast Asia, and also the one that moves at the slowest pace. This 9-day journey travels from the capital Viêng Chăn northwards, through the limestone mountains of Vang Vieng, the heritage ancient capital of Luang Prabang, and finally ends at Nong Khiaw by the Nam Ou river.
Nong Khiaw is a destination few Vietnamese tour groups know: a small town nestled between two towering cliff faces, with just a few riverside guesthouses, where the valley is completely blanketed in mist early in the morning. This is a place to pause and linger, not just to snap a photo and move on.
The itinerary strikes a balance between heritage (temples, museums, alms-giving ceremonies) and nature (caves, boating, waterfalls).
Highlights
That Luang Viêng Chăn – The golden stupa, a national symbol of Laos.
Vang Vieng – Towering limestone mountains along the Nam Song river, Tham Chang cave, Blue Lagoon.
Luang Prabang – UNESCO Heritage site, Tak Bat alms-giving ceremony, Xieng Thong pagoda, Kuang Si waterfall.
Pak Ou Cave – Over 4,000 Buddha statues in the caves along the Mekong river.
Nong Khiaw – A small town along the Nam Ou river between two cliff faces, the most beautiful sunrise viewing spot in northern Laos.
