This full-day city tour is built to make sense of all of it.

From the grand civic architecture of District 1 to the incense-filled alleyways of Cho Lon, from the sobering halls of the War Remnants Museum to a water bus ride with views of Landmark 81 — you'll leave with a real understanding of this city, not just a list of landmarks ticked off a map.

07:30 – 08:00 AM Hotel Pickup — Your guide meets you at your hotel in central District 1. Board your air-conditioned vehicle and get a brief orientation on the day ahead. As you move through the early morning streets, your guide introduces Saigon's layout — a city of 24 districts that was once the capital of a French colonial territory, a front line in a decades-long war, and is now one of the fastest-growing economies in Southeast Asia.

08:00 – 09:00 AM Notre Dame Cathedral & Central Post Office — Start in the heart of colonial Saigon at Paris Square. Notre Dame Cathedral, completed in 1880, was constructed entirely from materials imported from France: red brick from Toulouse, stained glass from Paris. The cathedral is currently undergoing restoration, but the exterior and square remain fully accessible. Steps away, the Saigon Central Post Office is one of the finest examples of colonial architecture in Vietnam. Designed under the influence of Gustave Eiffel's team, the building's soaring arched ceiling, ornate ironwork, and original hand-painted maps of the telegraph network make it far more than just a functional building. It's still a working post office today — you can send a postcard home from here.

09:00 – 10:00 AM War Remnants Museum — A short drive to one of the most visited museums in Vietnam. The War Remnants Museum documents the American War (known as the Vietnam War in the West) from the Vietnamese perspective — through the photographs of 134 international war correspondents who were killed during the conflict, captured military equipment in the courtyard, and stark exhibitions on Agent Orange and its generational effects. This is not an easy museum. It is, however, an essential one for understanding why modern Vietnam is the way it is.

10:00 – 11:30 AM Reunification Palace (Independence Palace) — Drive to the former Presidential Palace — the site where, on April 30, 1975, North Vietnamese tanks broke through the iron gates and ended the Vietnam War. The palace has been preserved almost exactly as it was on that day. Your guide leads you through the formal reception rooms, the presidential living quarters, the rooftop helipad from which the last helicopters departed, and — most memorably — the underground command bunkers. The 1960s modernist design by architect Ngo Viet Thu is striking in itself.

12:00 – 01:00 PM Lunch — Lunch at a local restaurant in District 1 or nearby — authentic Vietnamese food in a setting that isn't aimed primarily at tourists. Your guide will be there to help navigate the menu. The meal is included in your tour price.

01:30 – 03:00 PM Cho Lon — Chinatown — Drive to Cho Lon — Ho Chi Minh City's Chinese district, established by Hoa (ethnic Chinese) merchants in the late 18th century. Thien Hau Pagoda, dedicated to the sea goddess Mazu and patroness of sailors, is the anchor of the visit. Founded in the early 1800s, the pagoda is built in traditional southern Chinese style with elaborately decorated roof ridges covered in ceramic figures. Inside, large coils of incense hang from the ceiling, burning slowly over days or weeks as offerings. From the pagoda, walk through the surrounding lanes to Binh Tay Market — the true wholesale market of Cho Lon, built in 1928 and still operating as the commercial heart of the district.

03:15 – 04:00 PM Saigon River Water Bus — Board the public Saigon River water bus at Bach Dang wharf for a scenic crossing of the river. This is the same vessel used by thousands of daily commuters. The views from the water are some of the best in the city: Landmark 81, the lotus-inspired Bitexco Financial Tower, the historic riverside warehouses, and across the water, the rapidly developing Thu Thiem district. The crossing takes about 20–30 minutes and ends at the Thu Thiem or Thanh Da terminal, from where your vehicle collects you.

04:30 – 05:00 PM Ben Thanh Market Area (Optional) — If time allows, your guide can take you past Ben Thanh Market — one of the most recognized landmarks in Ho Chi Minh City and a good spot for a final browse of local goods, Vietnamese coffee, or dried snacks to take home. This stop is flexible based on the group's energy and interest.
